#ChooseCollege

  • Submitted by: Stuart McMillan, Greenock and Inverclyde, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 28 June 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-05124

That the Parliament supports the national #ChooseCollege campaign, which aims to encourage more people from every age and background to fulfil their potential by accessing what it sees as the life-changing learning opportunities on offer at colleges across the country; believes that Scotland’s 26 colleges are uniquely placed to lead a skills-based recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, with colleges training and re-training generations of people to help tackle the climate emergency in new and changing industries, and providing opportunities to learn flexibly; understands that an estimated 95% of college graduates move on to positive outcomes in employment or university, and that around one third of Scotland’s college students come from the most deprived socio-economic communities, and understands what it sees as the vital role colleges play as civic anchors within the communities they serve.
