Carnoustie’s Olivia Blackburn Wins Prince’s Trust Young Achiever Award

  • Submitted by: Graeme Dey, Angus South, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 15 June 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-04686

That the Parliament congratulates Olivia Blackburn, who is from Carnoustie, on winning a Prince’s Trust Award; celebrates Olivia receiving the Young Achiever accolade, which recognises young people who have succeeded against the odds, improved their life chances and had a positive impact on their community; understands that Olivia lost her father to cancer and had to leave school early to focus on her own health, before her mother also fell ill; acknowledges her determination in pursuing the Prince’s Trust course, which was run with NHS Scotland and Dundee and Angus College; notes that she went on to gain an HNC in Care and Administrative Practice, and understands Olivia is now in her second year of a nursing degree while thriving as an NHS healthcare support worker on the haematology ward where her mum is receiving treatment.
