Clyde Nurses Win Award

  • Submitted by: Annie Wells, Glasgow, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 14 April 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-03924

That the Parliament congratulates a group of Clyde nurses on picking up a top award; understands that the team of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde nurses were recognised for their work with patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease in Clyde Sector; notes that the Clyde IBD team, which includes five nurses, won the Gastrointestinal/IBD Nurse of the Year category at the recent British Journal of Nursing Awards in London; understands that, between them, they support patients across the entire Clyde area of West Dunbartonshire, Renfrewshire and Inverclyde; understands that Fiona McCluskey accepted the award on behalf of all of the nursing team, who were thrilled to pick up the award; recognises that the nursing team stepped up to develop and provide nurse-led services for patients despite huge challenges; notes the significant innovations in practice, including self-management and relapse pathways, and patient-centred telemedicine services, which were all built and delivered with an ethos of patient-initiated review; further notes, in particular, the work on self-management that has been published and recognised nationally; understands that the award means a huge amount to the team, considering that, in October 2021, they were runners-up in the Royal College of Nursing national awards for advanced nursing practice, and considers that, despite the challenges of COVID-19, the nurses have remained dedicated to their patients, and that, as such, this award is well deserved.
