Seat Spot Championing Accessible Town Centres

  • Submitted by: Jeremy Balfour, Lothian, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 11 March 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-03517

That the Parliament commends the work of Seat Spot, a Scottish charity, which is championing the need for shops, retail parks and council buildings to provide accessible seating within their premises for people of all ages, who experience mobility and fatigue issues; believes that this is a simple solution to reduce social exclusion in our high streets and town centres; notes the advantages to local businesses, as it believes that customers will be more inclined to visit a business that provides accessible seating; considers that, with more than 12 million disabled people in the UK, with an estimated spending power of £249 billion, this could be hugely beneficial financially, and hopes that, with the help of all MSPs, the accessibility of the country's high streets can be improved one seat at a time.
