  • Submitted by: Claire Baker, Mid Scotland and Fife, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 02 February 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-02981

That the Parliament congratulates the Open University’s free learning site, Open Learn, on celebrating its 15th anniversary and reaching 100 million visitors; understands that there are over 1,000 courses and over 15,000 hours of articles and videos available to the public; notes the range of courses available, including bite-size learning on every subject from ancient Greek to renewable energy, as well as the dedicated hub for Scotland with resources on the nation's history, society and culture; recognises what it sees as the quick creation of relevant topical content, produced at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, to support furloughed workers looking to upskill and students and parents looking to enhance their home-learning; acknowledges the partnerships with the Scottish Government, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and Job Centre Plus to support people into employment or to upskill, and wishes Open Learn every success for the future as it continues, it considers, to enrich society by providing so many people with life-changing learning, new skills and greater confidence.
