Motherwell Fans Raise Funds for Tickets for Unemployed People and Low-income Families

  • Submitted by: Gillian Mackay, Central Scotland, Scottish Green Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 12 July 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-00639

That the Parliament congratulates Motherwell FC on the success of the Well In scheme, which provides free season tickets to unemployed people and low-income families in its local area; commends its supporters for raising £58,155 to date for this initiative; understands that, beyond the challenges of COVID-19, Motherwell and the surrounding areas also face economic issues in normal times, that the unemployment rate is higher than the Scottish and British average, and that many other families and individuals are surviving on low incomes, and notes that this scheme, alongside the Club 365 Summer Activity Programme delivered by Motherwell Football Club Community Trust, which delivers sporting activities as well as free school meals every day to all primary school pupils throughout the summer holidays, highlights the important role that this club plays in supporting families in need all across Lanarkshire.
