Question
To ask the Scottish Government which countries demonstrate international best practice regarding gender recognition, and whether it will provide details of the research and analysis it has undertaken that informs this view.
Answer
A number of jurisdictions - including Denmark and Ireland - have legal gender recognition systems in place which do not require the applicant to provide medical evidence. The Yogyakarta Principles contain recommendations on gender recognition: https://yogyakartaprinciples.org/principles-en/ .
