Question

To ask the Scottish Executive what representations it has made to the UK Government on reducing the VAT rate for the domestic repair, maintenance and improvement sector, given the impact on small businesses.

Answer

Scottish ministers have written to the UK Government on a number of occasions over the past four years to make the case for a reduction in the rate of VAT on work to houses. The Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Employment and Sustainable Growth last wrote to the Chancellor in relation to this issue on 16 November for consideration in his Autumn Statement.
