Food for Life Success in Glasgow

  • Submitted by: Kaukab Stewart, Glasgow Kelvin, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 07 October 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-01556

That the Parliament congratulates Glasgow City Council on achieving a bronze Food for Life Served Here award from Soil Association Scotland; understands that 34,000 fresh and healthy school meals are now served daily across 137 sites across the city; further understands that a minimum of 75% of dishes are freshly prepared from unprocessed ingredients; applauds the dedication and hard work of the council’s catering teams; recognises that this is an impressive achievement and a key step on the road to achieving the goals of the Glasgow City Food Plan; believes that, with around 30% of the greenhouse gas emissions coming from the food system, and given the recent IPCC report calling the situation a "code red for humanity", it is vital that public sector spending reflects the urgent need to tackle climate change, and wishes all participating sites every continued success in nourishing Glasgow's young people.
