  • Submitted by: Bob Doris, Glasgow Maryhill and Springburn, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 20 September 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-01270

That the Parliament commends the efforts of all those involved with Springburn-based Glasgow North Baby Food Bank for their vital work since its establishment in October 2019; understands that the Baby Food Bank was launched by local women after concerns that traditional foodbanks did not stock formula baby milk; further understands that the Baby Food Bank initially operated with supplies that were stored in cupboards and storage rooms in various premises until a generous donation of £6,000 allowed the Baby Food Bank to secure its current premises at Flemington House; offers our thanks to all the volunteers from North Glasgow Baby Food Bank, which have supported more than 3,000 families facing significant financial pressures, not least due to the COVID-19 pandemic; recognises that the support offered goes far beyond baby formula, and offers various other support such as nappies, baby clothes and other items, as well as helping signpost families to other services and financial support, such as the Scottish Government’s Scottish Child Payment, Best Start Grant and Best Start Foods; praises the vital work of founders Catherine Yuill, Tracy Pender, Maggie Watson and Gemma Coyle in establishing the Glasgow North Baby Food Bank; notes the ongoing crowdfunder to raise funds for rent over the next 12 months; expresses thanks to the many individuals who have shown their generosity, including local artist, Wee Skribbles, who is said to have raised over £2,000 from selling prints, and believes that elected representatives of all political hues, at all levels, must work in partnership to do all they can to eradicate the need for such services.
