  • Submitted by: Natalie Don, Renfrewshire North and West, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 15 June 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-00401

That the Parliament commends Scotland’s largest veterans’ charity, Erskine, for opening the £4 million state-of-the-art residential development, David Boyle Court, within Erskine’s veterans village in Bishopton, to provide accommodation and an employability programme to support armed service leavers and veterans of working age, from throughout the UK, whose life or transition plans have been disrupted; understands that the new facility will offer each resident of the 24 single occupancy apartments a two-year tenancy and a bespoke support package, tailored to suit their needs, including volunteering, training, and work experience, as well as job opportunities with local business partners; notes that the person-centred support is aimed at equipping veterans with the skills to move onto sustained employment and long-term accommodation in an area of their choice, and wishes the project well in its endeavours to give those who have served the country time and space to develop and showcase their talents, as they reprepare for civilian life.
