West Lothian College Creates New Qualification for COVID-19 Mobile Testing Unit Operatives

  • Submitted by: Fiona Hyslop, Linlithgow, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 04 June 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-00252

That the Parliament welcomes the partnership between West Lothian College and the Scottish Ambulance Service to develop a new vocational qualification in health and social care for staff working at Mobile Testing Units (MTUs) across Scotland where they provide easy access to a COVID-19 test; understands that the nine-week Gateway to Health and Social Care course provides MTU operatives the opportunity to formally demonstrate the skills and knowledge that they have developed in their work at the testing centres; notes that this provides staff with a transferable qualification for further opportunities in health and social care once the testing centres are no longer required, and commends the college for its responsiveness in supporting employers such as the Scottish Ambulance Service to help their employees gain the skills to adapt to changing circumstances.
