Steve Byrne Secures The Corries’ Iconic Bouzouki

  • Submitted by: Clare Adamson, Motherwell and Wishaw, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 04 June 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-00247

That the Parliament recognises that the musical instrument played by The Corries during the band's first-ever televised performance of Flower of Scotland has been secured to be placed in Saint Cecilia’s Hall in the University of Edinburgh following an anonymous donation to a crowdfunder instigated by the musician and fokelorist, Steve Byrne; notes that the traditional Greek bouzouki was played by Roy Williamson when Flower of Scotland was premiered in 1968, and congratulates Steve and all who donated to ensure that the instrument is in the hands of the University of Edinburgh.
