General Practice during the Pandemic

  • Submitted by: Alison Johnstone, Lothian, Scottish Green Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 23 February 2021
  • Motion reference: S5M-24214

That the Parliament notes that general practice has remained open throughout the COVID-19 pandemic but has had to adapt to continue to deliver non-COVID-19 related care in new and innovative ways to keep patients and healthcare staff safe; understands that GPs are continuing to deliver this care while also supporting the vaccination programme; notes that many GPs and primary care staff have also worked in COVID-19 assessment centres; further notes that GP practices are now offering routine services like cervical and bowel screening; understands that GP practice teams have played a crucial role in ensuring that care is delivered throughout the pandemic; acknowledges that general practice is a 24/7 service; pays tribute to the efforts of GPs working in out of hours services, and expresses its sincere thanks to all of those working in general practice more widely during the pandemic.
