Work Capability Assessments - Amendment

  • Submitted by: Drew Smith, Glasgow, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 25 September 2012
  • Motion reference: S4M-04043.1

As an amendment to motion S4M-04043 in the name of Kevin Stewart (Work Capability Assessments), leave out from "; notes" to end and insert "under contract to the Department of Work and Pensions and that many stakeholder organisations and individuals are similarly concerned about assessments for personal independence payments; considers that the negative experiences of individual claimants that are being reported should be fully investigated and that, while independent assessment is an integral part of determining eligibility, such assessments should be dignified and fair; further notes the pressure that it considers is being put on information, advice and advocacy organisations, including Citizens Advice Bureaux, to support claimants through the assessment process, and acknowledges calls for the Scottish Government to pass on the Barnett consequentials that it has received to support information and advice providers who are working hard to assist their clients to access the benefits that they may be entitled to."
