Apache North Sea Becomes first £1 Million-plus Donor to Maggie’s Aberdeen

  • Submitted by: Jackie Dunbar, Aberdeen Donside, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 27 March 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-12681

That the Parliament commends Apache North Sea for its donations to Maggie’s Aberdeen, exceeding £1 million; understands that Apache North Sea, an oil and gas exploration and production company, has become the largest individual benefactor to Maggie’s Aberdeen after 15 years of partnership, and that its latest donation of £30,000 has pushed the business’s cumulative donations past the £1 million milestone; recognises that Apache North Sea’s support dates back to when plans for Maggie’s iconic Foresterhill building, at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, were still on the architect’s drawing board; understands that the most recent donation will be used to sustain the benefit advice service run by Maggie’s Aberdeen, which helps cancer patients and their families to access the various forms of support that is available to them, totalling nearly £8.7 million worth of support over the past 10 years; further understands that Maggie’s Aberdeen receives around 10,000 visitors each year, which it expects to increase as people live longer and the population rises; welcomes the partnership between Apache North Sea and Maggie’s Aberdeen reaching this impressive milestone, and believes that this partnership has been incredibly beneficial for people in Aberdeen.
