Grangemouth Colts Juniors Selected for Scotland Team

  • Submitted by: Meghan Gallacher, Central Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 22 March 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-12574

That the Parliament congratulates Robbie Connell, aged 15, and Magnus Cooper, aged 14, on being selected to be part of the Scotland team that will represent the country at an international flag football tournament; understands that flag football is a non-contact, five-on-five version of American football in which all players wear a belt with two flags attached, and that tackles are made by grabbing an opposing ball-carrier’s flag from their belt; considers that flag football is a rapidly growing sport, which will be included at the 2028 summer Olympics in Los Angeles; understands that the boys were chosen to be a part of the 22-player team from a pool of almost 70 players who attended the trials; further understands that the boys regularly play for the Grangemouth Colts Juniors, which is one of five teams that make up the Grangemouth Flag Football Club; believes that the club has a very successful history, with a number of club members representing Scotland and Great Britain at various international tournaments; congratulates the club on its recent success at the Flagging Iron Man tournament, which was held in Motherwell, with the Broncos beating a number of international teams to take home the gold; commends Robbie and Magnus on their hard work, and wishes them the best of luck as they travel to Slovenia in July 2024 to represent Scotland at Bear Bowl.
