Bringing Greater Glasgow's Buses Back under Public Control

  • Submitted by: Paul Sweeney, Glasgow, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 15 March 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-12521

That the Parliament welcomes Strathclyde Partnership for Transport’s (SPT) decision to make use of new powers made available in the Transport (Scotland) Act 2019, and pursue bus franchising; welcomes the reported recommendation to establish small-scale municipal bus companies to provide bus access to underserved areas of the region; calls on the Scottish Government to support SPT so that it can deliver a franchised bus network for the Strathclyde region; shares the reported concerns of campaigners that any interim Bus Service Improvement Partnership might delay the introduction of the franchised network, and applauds Get Glasgow Moving for what it sees as its tireless campaigning on this issue.
