Celebrating the 72nd Shetland County Drama Festival

  • Submitted by: Beatrice Wishart, Shetland Islands, Scottish Liberal Democrats.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 15 March 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-12513

That the Parliament celebrates the 72nd Shetland County Drama Festival; understands that the annual event is taking place from 11 to 15 March 2024 at the Garrison Theatre in Lerwick; further understands that the 2024 festival features 18 performances across a variety of genres, performed by groups of all ages from different areas of Shetland, and includes original works written by local playwrights, with plays adjudicated by Mr Jim Gibson; celebrates the young performers from Shetland schools taking part in the festival, some of whom are taking to the stage for the first time, and the Shetland drama groups providing creative opportunities for islanders; understands that the number of entries in 2024 required an extra day of performances to be added to the schedule, and believes that this indicates the success of the creative arts sector in Shetland; wishes "break a leg" to all performers, and further wishes all involved in the 72nd Shetland County Drama Festival a successful week.
