Double Triumph as Scott and Robert Win at Lantra Scotland ALBAS

  • Submitted by: Finlay Carson, Galloway and West Dumfries, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 13 March 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-12485

That the Parliament congratulates Scott Cunningham and Robert Wallace on their successes at the Lantra Scotland Awards for Land-based and Aquaculture Skills (ALBAS) ceremony, staged at Crieff Hydro in March 2024 to recognise and celebrate the achievements of those working and learning in the land-based and aquaculture sectors; notes that Scott, from Dalbeattie, won the prestigious award of Agriculture Learner of the Year, having undertaken his pre-apprenticeship and modern apprenticeship at Craigley Farms, Castle Douglas, thanks to Tarff Valley, an agricultural merchant and a highly-respected training provider; acknowledges that Tarff Valley member, Robert Wallace, also of Craigley Farms, provided the inspiration and expert agricultural guidance that earned him the title of Mentor of the Year; recognises what it sees as the enormous work being carried out by Tarff Valley in providing training opportunities to many people who have no farming background but wish to pursue a career in the agricultural sector, and wishes both Scott and Robert, along with Tarff Valley, continued success in the coming years.
