20th Anniversary of Auchenback Resource Centre

  • Submitted by: Paul O'Kane, West Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 27 February 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-12312

That the Parliament recognises that the Auchenback Resource Centre (ARC), a community hub for the Auchenback community in Barrhead and home of the local charity, Auchenback Active Limited, has turned 20 years old; understands that, since opening on 27 February 2004, the ARC has played a pivotal role in bringing the local community in Auchenback and wider Barrhead together; notes that it has been the setting of many important community activities and events, and that its community café has been an especially cherished feature for local residents; celebrates that the local community came together on 23 February 2024 to acknowledge the anniversary but also pay tribute to two stalwart figures, Rita Connelly and Irene Simpson; notes that Rita and Irene were two dedicated founder members of Auchenback Active Limited, and agrees that ARC gave them a fitting tribute by erecting two remembrance benches in the newly landscaped front garden; congratulates the chair, Brian Connelly, and all of the ARC directors and volunteers for creating and maintaining a very special hub for the Auchenback community for all of these years, and wishes it the very best in continuing that fantastic service for the future.
