Shetland Islands Council Volunteers Deliver over 100 Christmas Dinners

  • Submitted by: Beatrice Wishart, Shetland Islands, Scottish Liberal Democrats.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 11 January 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-11836

That the Parliament congratulates Shetland Islands Council volunteers on delivering over 100 free Christmas dinners to people in Lerwick and Scalloway, Shetland, on Christmas Day 2023; understands that Alison Beattie and Brenda Moar, who run the kitchen at Sound Primary School in Shetland, volunteered with a team of helpers to cook full turkey dinners and homemade sticky toffee puddings, which were delivered to around 50 homes on 25 December; further understands that the volunteer team also provided the Christmas meal for voluntary group Food for the Way, which hosted a Christmas dinner for 35 people; commends the efforts of local businesses that donated food supplies to ensure that the festive initiative could happen; praises the volunteer kitchen hands and volunteer drivers who gave their time and skills on Christmas Day to help their community; notes that, thanks to this initiative, people who otherwise would not have had a Christmas dinner were able to enjoy one; considers that the initiative was a success, and wishes all involved all the best in their future endeavours.
