That the Parliament welcomes the award of the Robert A Pritzker Prize for Leadership in Parkinson’s Research by the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF) to Professor Dario Alessi of the University of Dundee; understands that Professor Alessi is Director of the Medical Research Council Protein Phosphorylation and Ubiquitylation Unit (MRC-PPU) and Professor of Signal Transduction in the University’s School of Life Sciences; recognises that the award has been made annually since 2011, and includes a $200,000 research grant that will further support Professor Alessi’s work; believes that Professor Alessi is a leader in the study of kinases, which, it understands, is the most frequent cause of inherited Parkinson’s, and that he leads an international research network that explores underlying genetic mutations in Parkinson’s disease; further believes that the MJFF is the world's largest non-profit funder of Parkinson's research, dedicated to accelerating a cure for Parkinson's disease and improved therapies for those living with the condition, and has funded $1.75 billion in research to date; wishes both the MJFF and Professor Alessi the very best in their future work, and thanks them for their remarkable contribution to the field.
