  • Submitted by: Jackson Carlaw, Eastwood, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 17 February 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-07679.1

As an amendment to motion S6M-07679 in the name of Ross Greer (Israeli Raid in Jenin), leave out from "notes" to end and insert "acknowledges the reports that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Israeli security forces carried out an intelligence-based counterterrorism operation in Jenin on 26 January 2023; understands that this operation was required so that an attempt could be made to arrest members of an alleged terrorist group that had reportedly played an extensive role in the preparation and implementation of multiple major terrorist attacks against Israeli citizens and military personnel; further understands that, as part of the operation, security forces encircled a building where the alleged terrorist suspects were being housed; notes the reports that members of the alleged terrorist group instigated shooting at the security forces; understands that BBC online coverage of the incident reported that militant groups claimed seven people who died in the operation as their members, and that the further two casualties were identified by Palestinian officials as civilians; regrets that there were two reported civilian casualties and understands that the IDF has launched an investigation into the death of a 61-year-old woman, and further understands that, since spring 2022, Israel has been pursuing significant essential counterterrorism activities in the West Bank in response to a reported large-scale increase in gun and knife attacks against Israeli citizens."
