  • Submitted by: Tess White, North East Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 13 October 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-06319

That the Parliament congratulates Laurencekirk-based charity Mearns and Coastal Healthy Living Network (MCHLN) on securing a grant totalling £24,000 from the Bank of Scotland Foundation’s funding programme, Reach; understands that MCHLN was founded in 2002, and supports people aged 50 and over in the Mearns area by providing a range of services and activities designed to improve health and wellbeing, reduce the effects of isolation and loneliness, and ease the effects of financial hardship; notes that MCHLN has built a network of some 80 fantastic volunteers, and helps around 200 older people each week; understands that the grant will be used to part-fund ongoing social inclusion projects for those living with neurological conditions, such as dementia, including social opportunities and activities, as well as practical support, and the opportunity for family and carers to have some much-needed respite; further understands that, since November 2010, the Bank of Scotland Foundation has provided almost £28 million to nearly 2,400 charities; considers that this has made positive change across Scotland, enabling more than 1,000,000 people to benefit from a variety of much-needed local services and personal support, and wishes MCHLN every success moving forward.
