Ancre Somme Association Organises Parade to Honour Special Forces

  • Submitted by: Stephen Kerr, Central Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 06 September 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-05839

That the Parliament recognises that the Ancre Somme Association organised a parade and short service to honour the country's Special Forces; understands that this took place on the first anniversary of the unveiling of the memorial to John Thomas McAleese, one of the Special Air Service soldiers involved in ending the Iranian Embassy siege, in London, in 1980; further understands that John Thomas McAleese was brought up in the Falkirk area, served in the Falklands War in 1982, received the Military Medal in 1998 for his service contribution in Northern Ireland, and served as a bodyguard for three Prime Ministers, and recognises what it sees as the importance of remembering the sacrifices and paying respect to those who have served in the Armed Forces.
