Forfar-based Dr Peter Wright Awarded MBE in The Queen’s Birthday Honours

That the Parliament congratulates Forfar-based Dr Peter Wright on being named a Member of the British Empire, as part of The Queen’s Birthday Honours, for services to science; understands that, for over 30 years, his impact in mentoring young scientists has been evident internationally within the field of marine science; notes that Dr Wright has committed a large part of his career and free time to nurturing scientific talent and to initiating research that forms a lasting national and international legacy in the protection of Scotland's seas; further understands that he also led the identification and protection of key nursery habitats for cod during recent periods of stock decline that increased the understanding of the effects of climate change; commends Dr Wright’s tireless work, which has secured and supported six postdoctoral posts, 19 PhD students, six post-graduate students, as well as voluntarily lecturing for 10 years at the University of Aberdeen, and congratulates him for receiving an invite to be the UK representative on the Science Committee of the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea.
