  • Submitted by: Finlay Carson, Galloway and West Dumfries, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 19 May 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-04465

That the Parliament congratulates pupils from Stranraer Academy who recently took part in a gruelling expedition in Greenland where they endured Arctic temperatures during the 10-day trip; notes that they had to undergo a lengthy training process prior to the expedition, including 10 months of intense cardio workouts that involved hauling tyres across Ballantrae beach to prepare for their big adventure; understands that the pupils learned a host of skills involving camping, skiing and sledging in freezing conditions; acknowledges the involvement of the charity, The Polar Academy, founded in 2013 to encourage young people to build up their confidence and self-esteem while tackling challenging conditions; praises the work of its founder, Craig Mathieson, in establishing the organisation, and wishes The Polar Academy continued success in the future as it attracts more pupils to put their skills to the test.
