Railway Investment Needed to Support Net Zero - Amendment

  • Submitted by: Emma Roddick, Highlands and Islands, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 29 October 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-01664.1

As an amendment to motion S6M-01664 in the name of Alex Rowley (Railway Investment Needed to Support Net Zero), leave out from ", with the support of the Scottish Government" to end and insert "should not be proposing cutting 300 train services a day across the country, or proposing ticket office closures and job losses; recognises what it sees as the opportunities that will come with the forthcoming nationalisation of the service; believes that, if Scotland is to become a Net Zero Nation, investment needs to be made into sustainable and low-carbon forms of transport and, in particular, the railways, which must be affordable for people to use and with a special focus on the Highlands and other parts of the country that are further away from the Central Belt, where rail investment continues to lag behind the rest of Scotland, and suggests that decisive action is needed to make rail travel a more attractive proposition for these areas, including such measures as dualling the Highland Main Line and installing a passing loop at the southern end of the Far North Line."
