Question reference: S5W-21312

  • Asked by: Angela Constance, MSP for Almond Valley, Scottish National Party
  • Date lodged: 30 January 2019
  • Current status: Answered by Humza Yousaf on 26 February 2019

Question

To ask the Scottish Government what its position is on whether there should be a central point of expertise to support and guide the families of resident Scots who have died abroad in suspicious circumstances.

Answer

I do not believe that the current system is wholly satisfactory. I look forward to the publication of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Deaths Abroad and Consular Services report and any recommendations it makes in this area which lie within the competence of the Scottish Government. I am keen to explore this issue further.
