Question

To ask the Scottish Government whether it considers the Energy Performance Certificate to be appropriate for stone-built properties, and what the reasons are for its position on this matter.

Answer

Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) are appropriate for the assessment of stone-built buildings.

EPCs are produced using the UK Government National Calculation Methodology (NCM) that conforms to the requirements of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (2010/31/EU).

To produce an EPC, an assessor must identify and record information on the form and construction of the building. Default values for the performance of building elements are provided for use in the calculation methodology where it is impractical to obtain building-specific values.
