Question

To ask the Scottish Government what progress it is making in meeting the target of ensuring that ministerial public appointments are more diverse and reflective of the population, as set out in its Equality Outcomes and Mainstreaming Report 2015.

Answer

In 2015, Scottish Ministers appointed more women than men, on merit, to positions on the boards of Scotland’s public bodies. 54% of those appointed under the process regulated by the Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life in Scotland were women, representing a significant step forward in progress towards our aim of achieving broader diversity in Scotland’s leadership, and an historic first for Scotland. Statistics for appointments made in 2015 and an analysis is available from 3 March 2016 at: www.appointed-for-scotland.org.
