Question

To ask the Scottish Government what discussions it has had, or plans to have, with the UK Government regarding the UK position on the European Commission's review of the birds and habitats directives, in light of suggestions that the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs was pushing for reform to weaken the directives.

Answer

The Scottish Government continues to engage with the UK Government on the ‘Fitness Check’ exercise. We are not aware of any UK Government proposals to weaken protection of wildlife.
