The Scottish Environment Protection Agency, as waste regulation authority, monitors to ensure that landfill sites comply with conditions set out in the waste management licence for the site. The UK Government and the Scottish Executive are funding a study into possible health effects in the vicinity of landfill sites. The study is being conducted by the Small Area Health Statistics Unit. It is anticipated that the results of this study will be available by the middle of 2000.
