  • Submitted by: Sandra White, Glasgow Kelvin, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 20 April 2018
  • Motion reference: S5M-11765

That the Parliament commemorates the ground-breaking work of Joseph Lister, whose research on antiseptic surgery transformed modern medicine; notes that April 2018 marks 150 years since Lister presented his work at a public meeting at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, and welcomes the work of the college to mark this important anniversary by staging Listermania, a series of public events to mark this historic occasion, which included developing a partnership with Garnetbank Primary School to explore the local heritage of Lister, the publication of a collection of Lister-themed poetry by the local artist, Marianne McRae, and a discussion on how Lister’s work continues to influence surgeons today.
