ReUseIt Barrhead

  • Submitted by: Ross Greer, West Scotland, Scottish Green Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 07 December 2016
  • Motion reference: S5M-02979

That the Parliament congratulates the furniture recycling charity, ReUseIt, in Barrhead on having diverted nearly 500 tonnes of waste from landfill in the last six years; notes that this equates to a landfill diversion rate of 79%; recognises that ReUseIt was shortlisted for Community Project of the Year at The Herald Society Awards in 2013, and won Social Enterprise of the Year at East Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce's Business Awards in 2015; recognises that this was achieved by a team of 4.5 staff, who are all paid a living wage, and around 10 volunteers, and that, as a small charity, this has been achieved with no core funding and only £85,000 external funding in six years; thanks the charity for providing affordable, high-quality, second-hand furniture to the community in Barrhead and East Renfrewshire, and wishes everyone involved well for the future.
