Kirkcudbright Art Gallery

  • Submitted by: Emma Harper, South Scotland, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 06 December 2016
  • Motion reference: S5M-02936

That the Parliament welcomes the commencement of onsite works at Kirkcudbright Art Gallery as a milestone in the completion of this important project; notes that, once complete, there will be a national gallery situated within the current town hall building with a permanent gallery to tell the Kirkcudbright Artists’ Story, temporary exhibition galleries, a learning and activity space, a café and a "very secure" gallery space to house high value exhibits, such as the Viking Hoard that was recently found in the region; understands that the gallery is estimated to bring in 40,000 visitors per year to the town of Kirkcudbright, which will in turn bring in up to £1 million pounds annually to the local economy, and wishes those driving the project forward, including the Kirkcudbright Community Trust, every continued success.
