Forth Replacement Crossing Workers being Ripped-off

  • Submitted by: Neil Findlay, Lothian, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 05 December 2016
  • Motion reference: S5M-02931

That the Parliament is concerned about reports regarding the treatment of workers employed on the Forth Replacement Crossing project by the Portuguese subcontractor, Sosia Ltd; understands that construction industry union, UCATT, has identified people being paid well below recognised industry rates, including joiners receiving £7.67-an-hour and labourers receiving just £6.32; believes that agreements are in place to ensure that workers on the crossing should be paid in accordance with the Construction Joint Industry Council (CIJC) agreement, with minimum hourly rates of £11.61 and £8.73 for joiners and labourers, along with agreed overtime rates and subsistence allowances, and supports the call by UCATT for the Scottish Government to conduct an urgent independent pay audit of the workers engaged on the project.
