Congratulating the Mount Befriending Service and the David Cargill Centre

  • Submitted by: James Dornan, Glasgow Cathcart, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 05 December 2016
  • Motion reference: S5M-02927

That the Parliament congratulates the Mount Befriending Service and the David Cargill Centre in the Glasgow Cathcart constituency on making it through to the grand final of the Glasgow Community Champion Awards on 1 December 2016 at Glasgow’s City Chambers; notes that the Mount Befriending Service was nominated for the Community Champion Team Award, which recognises the work of a local team or group of volunteers that make a difference in their community by improving amenities or raising the quality of life for local residents, and which is open to local charities or voluntary organisations that may be involved in activities such as fundraising for better facilities or organising community events; further notes that the David Cargill Centre was nominated for the Health and Wellbeing Award, which highlights groups or projects that promote the improvement of health and wellbeing within their communities; acknowledges that, although these worthy organisations did not win, they still continue to provide an essential service within the Glasgow Cathcart constituency by helping to bring people together and tackling social isolation, especially for older and vulnerable people, and thanks the people who run them, who it considers are the very paragon of civic virtue.
