Douglas Denwette Receives the Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur Award

That the Parliament congratulates 97-year-old Douglas Denwette on receiving the Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur Award, which is France’s highest honour, for his role in the liberation of the country; acknowledges that the former corporal saw action in North Africa and Sicily before taking part in the D-Day landings in June 1944 as part of the 5th battalion of The Black Watch; understands that Douglas, along with the Canadian Division and 153 Brigade, came ashore on Juno beach at the French town of Courseulles, with the objective to eliminate snipers in the town of Douvre La Deliverand; notes how brave and courageous Douglas is, and wishes him all the very best.
