Disabilities Fife Receives a Big Lottery Fund Grant

  • Submitted by: Alexander Stewart, Mid Scotland and Fife, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 01 December 2016
  • Motion reference: S5M-02887

That the Parliament congratulates Disabilities Fife on its Young Carers project being awarded £49,940 by the Big Lottery Fund; understands that the two-year project, which will cover Kirkcaldy and the surrounding areas, will provide respite and support to 40 children and young people who have caring responsibilities at home; believes that it will provide respite care, in two-hour blocks, in the young carers' own homes, which will allow them time away from their caring responsibilities; notes that it will also arrange group outings and activities and that, through sharing and discussing their caring role and circumstances with their peers, the young carers will share knowledge and skills, which, it believes, will reduce any isolation and loneliness and ultimately help them to develop more positive relationships with those that they care for, and wishes the project, and the young carers, well for the future.
