Forres Academy Pupils Win NOSS Debating Competition

That the Parliament congratulates Matthew Angell and John Bonsall, who are pupils at Forres Academy, on winning the prestigious John Alan Cameron Quaich at the North of Scotland Schools' (NOSS) Debating Competition; understands that the final was held at Charleston Academy, at which a large contingent of supporters and guests turned up to watch the six teams from across the Highlands and north east debate the motion, “This house believes the USA is still awesome”; notes that the competition has been running since 1993 and will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2017; thanks Norwell Engineering, which sponsored the event and covered all of the transport costs for the schools during the heats and final; commends the judges, Laurence Findlay, who is the corporate director of education and social care at Moray Council, Dr Nanette Milne, who was a former MSP for North East Scotland, Lewis Keller, Jayne Stuart and Kate Imlah, as well as chair of the debate, Calum MacSween, who is former head of education at The Highland Council, who provided a high level of judging in a close-fought competition and kept the event running smoothly, and wishes Matthew, John and all of the other competitors the best of luck in future debating competitions.
