Tapa to Host Lunch for Autistic Children

  • Submitted by: Ben Macpherson, Edinburgh Northern and Leith, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 29 November 2016
  • Motion reference: S5M-02818

That the Parliament welcomes the news that Tapa restaurant in Leith, and its staff, are to host a series of special lunches for children with autism; appreciates that the restaurant will be holding events for children from Kaimes, which is a special needs school, in conjunction with Queen Margaret University (QMU); further appreciates that the lunches are part of a project funded by the Scottish Government that aims to help improve the eating habits of the school's pupils; recognises that this initiative aims to widen the children’s palate and make them feel comfortable when dining out, after the restaurant owner acknowledged that children from within the autistic spectrum often have very restricted diets; notes that the children will enjoy their first official lunch at Tapa on 29 November 2016, and thanks Ken Aitchison, a lecturer from QMU, Kaimes and the students from QMU for contributing their spare time to make this project happen.
