Alva Academy Pupils Reach the Young Enterprise Scotland National Finals 2024

  • Submitted by: Alexander Stewart, Mid Scotland and Fife, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 24 April 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-12956

That the Parliament welcomes the news that pupils from a Clackmannanshire high school are set to be heading to Hampden Park to take part in the Young Enterprise Scotland National Finals 2024; understands that the team from Alva Academy beat stiff competition from Lornshill Academy and five other high schools in Forth Valley to make the finals; notes that seven school teams took part in the Forth Valley Regional Final, which saw Alva Academy take the crown for its business, Melody Craft; considers that the Alva Academy team members inspired many in the school by setting up and running their own successful company, and that this will have given them new skills to take forward into their learning and future careers; shares the sentiment that, whatever happens at Hampden Park, the team is already a winner given its impressive achievements so far; believes that the Young Enterprise Scotland company programme aims to provide a real-life learning opportunity that introduces young people from S5 and S6 to the realities of the world of work; notes that participants in the programme are asked to start their own company, running through the key milestones of developing an idea, conducting market research, creating the product or service, promoting the product and, ultimately, trading it, and that over 2,000 young people take part in the programme every year in Scotland, and commends the Alva Academy team for its achievements so far, and wishes the team all the very best in the National Finals at Hampden, which will run from 28-29 May 2024.
