Irvine Paper Mill Celebrates 35 Years

That the Parliament congratulates Caledonian Paper Mill in Irvine on celebrating 35 years in business; understands that the paper mill opened in April 1989, after two years of construction, at a cost of £215 million, which was regarded as the single largest inward investment in Scotland at the time; acknowledges that the plant employs 285 people from the area, with the company employing more than 6,500 globally; commends the paper mill for being considered, it understands, one of the most efficient paper mills in the world, with it now being able to generate 62% of all required electricity onsite using renewable sources via the combined heat and power (CHP) biomass-fuelled boiler, and understands that it has reduced its effluent COD tons in 2021 to 2022 by 3.8%; congratulates Caledonian Paper Mill on its sustainability and operational efficiency, and wishes everyone at the plant every success in the future.
