World Water Day

  • Submitted by: John Mason, Glasgow Shettleston, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 26 March 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-12648

That the Parliament welcomes World Water Day, observed annually on 22 March, which underscores the vital role of water in supporting life; understands that, as more than three billion people rely on shared water resources, collaboration and cooperation are imperative to prevent conflicts and ensure equitable access to this essential resource; recognises the theme for 2024, "Water for Peace", which emphasises that access to water is a fundamental human right, and that by uniting efforts to manage water resources sustainably, this can lay the foundation for a more harmonious society; considers that working together to address water challenges and promote inclusive water management practices can create a brighter and more sustainable future for all, in which access to clean water is guaranteed and conflicts over water resources are minimised, and urges people to join the movement to support "Water for Peace" and contribute to building a world where water is a source of unity, rather than division.
