Welcoming the Reopening of La Sicilyana

  • Submitted by: John Swinney, Perthshire North, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 22 March 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-12600

That the Parliament recognises what it sees as the resilience and determination of the owners of La Sicilyana, a notable Italian bistro located in Scone, which faced temporary closure due to a catastrophic flooding incident caused by a burst pipe just before Christmas 2022; commends the efforts of the owners, Steven Dalton and Laura Raimondi, for their positive outlook and dedication to rebuilding and refurbishing their establishment, with plans to reopen in May 2024; appreciates what it considers to be the innovative approach taken by the owners to sustain their business through online wine sales during the closure period; acknowledges the overwhelming support from the Scone community towards La Sicilyana, and believes that this reflects the importance of local solidarity in times of adversity, and recognises what it considers to be the significance of small businesses, like La Sicilyana, in enriching the cultural and economic fabric of local communities across Scotland.
