RSPB Lochwinnoch Celebrates 50th Anniversary

  • Submitted by: Paul O'Kane, West Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 07 March 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-12435

That the Parliament understands that the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) Lochwinnoch Nature Reserve, situated just outside the Renfrewshire village of Lochwinnoch, has celebrated its 50th anniversary; further understands that the wetland site’s milestone was celebrated by RSPB hosting an open day for visitors on 2 March 2024; celebrates that, since the site was acquired by RSPB Scotland in December 1973, it has become one of Scotland’s most well-known and most visited nature reserves, which has welcomed hundreds of thousands of visitors over the past 50 years; further celebrates that the reserve, which is only a 30-minute drive from Glasgow, offers birdwatchers spectacular views of robins, goldfinches and other species in nature, and has become a popular place for schools trips, nature walks and family days out; congratulates RSPB Scotland for maintaining this nature reserve for the past 50 years, and wishes it the very best in continuing that mission.
