Caitlin Connor, Ice Climbing Champion

  • Submitted by: Clare Haughey, Rutherglen, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 15 February 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-12153

That the Parliament congratulates Caitlin Connor, from Cambuslang, on her recent successes in ice climbing; understands that Caitlin is the current UK ice climbing champion, that she is part of the GB Ice Climbing Team, and holds several European and world rankings; notes that over recent months Caitlin has undertaken training and participated in competitions, including the 2024 International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA), Ice Climbing World Championships, in countries including Slovakia, France, Finland, South Korea, and Switzerland; highlights that, in January 2024, Caitlin was the recipient of Fort William Mountain Festival's prestigious Scottish Youth Award for Excellence in Mountain Culture; believes that Caitlin’s achievements are even more remarkable given that Scotland has no indoor ice climbing wall, and that she has played a vital role in the growth of, and interest in, ice climbing, and wishes Caitlin the very best in future competitions.
