Chris Stark Steps Down from Climate Change Committee

  • Submitted by: Sarah Boyack, Lothian, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 12 January 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-11858

That the Parliament commends Chris Stark on his time as chief executive of the Climate Change Committee (CCC), following the announcement that he will step down after six years in the role; recognises what it sees as the important work that he did in leading the CCC and advising both the UK and Scottish governments on their respective climate change commitments; believes that Mr Stark has worked tirelessly to advocate and advise on ambitious green targets, including recommending that the UK set a net zero target for 2050, which was adopted and introduced into law; recognises his reported stark warnings that a lack of action now would risk undermining ambitious targets and place millions of people at risk, and wishes him luck in his new role as the chief executive of the Carbon Trust.
